Should Down syndrome be Cured?

I came across an article today about "curing" Down syndrome and thought I would share it on here. I have mixed feelings about even saying that Down syndrome can be "cured." Does that imply that Down syndrome is a disease? It isn't a disease, it is who someone is and it is written in their genes. Would you say when a person changes their hair color from red to brown that they have been "cured" from their red hair? No. So, semantics aside about the use of the word "cure," if someone offered me a drug that would presumable make life easier for Mason down the road, I guess I couldn't *not* consider it. There will be many hurdles ahead, but I don't think he needs to be "fixed." It's an interesting debate and one in which I can't pick a side without (a) it actually being found, rather than a possibility and (b) knowing more information about what it would change about my sweet, perfect little boy. Because Mason is perfect, just the way he is.
