Must Protect This House!

Since Mason has become much more mobile and Owen has become much more of an "artist" with his legos, duplos and blocks, we are seeing Owen become a little bit more protective of his creations. Here's a little story from last night.

First, Owen is so proud of his artistic creation of a Toy Story / Super Hero Castle ...

Mason (AKA Masy Monster) saw the castle and took off ...

Owen was on to Mason's tricks and blocked his path to save his castle for another day ...

But Mason is a determined little monster and has squeaked his way through ...

Better luck next time, Owen :) (Big brothers are THE best!)

Speed Racer!!

The weather finally cooperated with us and Owen got to ride his "big boy bike" for the first time today. He was so excited and ready to hit the ground racing. It only took a few turns to really get the hang of it and realize that he needed to push the pedals continuously forward to keep it moving. Below is a video of his first outing on the Spiderman bike!

Should Down syndrome be Cured?

I came across an article today about "curing" Down syndrome and thought I would share it on here. I have mixed feelings about even saying that Down syndrome can be "cured." Does that imply that Down syndrome is a disease? It isn't a disease, it is who someone is and it is written in their genes. Would you say when a person changes their hair color from red to brown that they have been "cured" from their red hair? No. So, semantics aside about the use of the word "cure," if someone offered me a drug that would presumable make life easier for Mason down the road, I guess I couldn't *not* consider it. There will be many hurdles ahead, but I don't think he needs to be "fixed." It's an interesting debate and one in which I can't pick a side without (a) it actually being found, rather than a possibility and (b) knowing more information about what it would change about my sweet, perfect little boy. Because Mason is perfect, just the way he is.

Roll Tide!!

We are all getting ready for the big National Championship game when Alabama takes on Texas tonight.  Since a lot of my family is from Alabama, we naturally are Bama fans.  Owen was so excited this morning to wear his hand-me-down Alabama jersey from Uncle Kyle.  He couldn't wait to get to school to show his friends his shirt .... until I gave him a Spiderman tattoo on his hand and all of a sudden that was the coolest thing in the world.  Fickle 3 year olds!   Oh well, the Lochheads will be pulling for the Crimson Tide to bring home the championship title tonight.  Roll Tide!!

My First Post (it only took a year!)

I created this blog about a year ago but never really got around to putting it together or posting anything.  I guess having two boys under 3 (at the time) will do that to you.  One year later, I feel like things are much more manageable with a 19 month old and a 3 1/2 year old.  Did I just say that??   Anyways, I hope to use this to post little snip-its about things that are going on in our crazy house.  I'll still use Shutterfly to post large blocks of pictures and of course Facebook will always remain part of my life :)

Hope you enjoy following our most excellent adventures!!
